A Walk To Remember Book Review

Hellooo everyone and happy Friday! I hope everyone is having a great day. I can’t wait to share this book review with you guys, so let’s just get right on into this post!

The book I’m going to be reviewing today is called A Walk To Remember by Nicholas Sparks. You’ve probably heard of him if you’re a fan of The Notebook, and if you are, then you’ll probably love this book by him as well. It’s a romance that takes place in the 1950’s that’s centered around religion and two teenagers. It was made in 1999 and there is a movie based off of it that I think was released in the 2000s with Mandy Moore, aka Rapunzel, in it. I’m definitely going to try to watch it this weekend. Hopefully it doesn’t change anything from the book or is completely horrible because we all know books have a reputation of being better than the movies, but we’ll see.

A Walk To Remember

Author: Nicholas Sparks

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Description

There was a time when the world was sweeter...when the women in Beaufort, North Carolina, wore dresses, and the men donned hats...when something happened to a seventeen-year-old boy that would change his life forever. Every April, when the wind blows in from the sea and mingles with the scent of lilacs, Landon Carter remembers his last year at Beaufort High. It was 1958, and Landon had already dated a girl or two. He even swore that he had once been in love. Certainly the last person in town he thought he'd fall for was Jamie Sullivan, the daughter of the town's Baptist minister. A quiet girl who always carried a Bible with her schoolbooks, Jamie seemed content living in a world apart from the other teens. She took care of her widowed father, rescued hurt animals, and helped out at the local orphanage. No boy had ever asked her out. Landon would never have dreamed of it. Then a twist of fate made Jamie his partner for the homecoming dance, and Landon Carter's life would never be the same. Being with Jamie would show him the depths of the human heart and lead him to a decision so stunning it would send him irrevocably on the road to manhood.

Review

*Normally right about now I would include a do not read ahead the following includes spoilers warning, but with this book I just really did not want to spoil anything for anybody, so there are no spoilers but still my honest review.

This book was all kinds of amazing. I loved the setting, which took place in the town of Beaufort in the 1950s. I loved the character development from Landon and even his friends. I loved the religious aspects and the events that took place throughout the book. This book is written as if Landon was reflecting back on when he was seventeen, and I thought that was a very clever way of writing it. “As if through someone else’s eyes, I watch myself grow younger; I see my hair changing from gray to brown, I feel the wrinkles around my eyes begin to smooth…” The author is such a good writer, when I read this book I felt everything and I could see it all clearly in my mind, which was really nice because some books aren’t that descriptive. If I could pick one character to be my favorite it would probably be Landon, of course, and Hegbert. I think everyone will enjoy reading about the bad boy and the old man.

Out of all the YA romance books I have read this one is probably on my top 10 list, if you guys want me to do a post about that I will. The relationships aren’t just your average teenage romance, they actually make you feel something. (I definitely cried at the end) So yeah, if you’re a chick lit reader you’ll definitely enjoy this.

When I was reading A Walk To Remember it was like I couldn’t put it down. I finished it in less than a day, granted it is pretty short, but I just felt like the plot was very compelling and intriguing and I really wasn’t bored at all.

One more thing I can say is that I was very frustrated at the end and that’s really not the author’s fault, just my very complicated emotions…(sigh) Anyway I was very proud of myself because I predicted something would happen and it did. Overall this was a great book and it definitely deserves the five out of five stars I gave it.

*Update - I just watched the movie version of A Walk To Remember and if you intend on reading the book I am warning you it is NOTHING LIKE IT. It wasn’t really bad...but it definitely wasn’t what I was expecting and let's just say I was not happy.

~

Thank you guys for reading this review! I absolutely recommend this book. Expect a lot more book reviews to come because I have just been reading SO many good books this month and it’s been really great. A Walk To Remember was on my list of fall books to read, which is a post that is coming soon as well. Okay well I hope everyone has a great last week before fall break, (I don’t know why I’m saying this I’ll literally be posting again in like 2 days) and has a great day, bye!
