Hey readers! Today I’m super excited because I’m going to share with you guys my first ever book review! In this book review I’ll be sharing my thoughts and opinions on Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone. Hopefully it will either encourage you to give the book a try, or you can relate to what I think of the book. The reason why I chose Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone is because I just recently read it a week ago. I had previously read the Harry Potter series in 3rd grade, but one of my goals on my summer bucket list was to reread the series. I got to say, it’s just as good the second time as it was the first! I’m glad I decided to reread it because I had actually forgotten a lot of stuff! So the way these book reviews will work is that I will give the book a rating, however many stars out of five, with 5 stars being the highest a book can get and one star the lowest. Next I will include a description and then an about the author, and finally, my recommendation. So let’s get on with the book review!

Description
Harry’s life so far has been miserable. When his parents died in a car crash 10 years ago, he was sent to live with his Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon, along with their little boy Dudley. The Dursley’s have been nothing but dreadful to him since the moment he arrived on their doorstep. Harry is sure that he will spend his eleventh birthday in his room, also known as the cupboard underneath the stairs. But an unexpected letter changes Harry’s life forever. He finds out he is accepted to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, which can only mean one thing: Harry is a wizard! Finally Harry finds his real home, the place where he can be himself instead of bottling up his magic abilities. But even at Hogwarts Harry is different, for he is the boy who lived. Though he was only a baby when it happened, Harry survived an attack by the evil Lord Voldemort, vanquishing the feared Dark Lord from existence. Even though Hogwarts is a dream come true, it’s not exactly a walk in the park. Soon Harry is immersed in a secret located within the walls of Hogwarts, and it’s up to him to face unimaginable forces in order to save the Wizarding world.

J.K Rowling is the author of the best selling Harry Potter series. Recommendation
*Warning- the following contains spoilers
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a long series full of magic and wonder, a series that will keep them interested and not bored. I really enjoyed reading this book for many reasons, with one of them being the characters. The three main characters are Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger. The three of them all must discover their place at Hogwarts while at the same time solving the mysteries that lay behind the castle's walls. My favorite character in this book is Albus Dumbledore, Hogwart’s Head Professor. I love how he is so wise, yet funny at the same time. One of the major things about this book was the feeling it gives me. It makes me want to live in Hogwarts myself, and it makes me wonder what I would see in the mirror of Erised. (Anyone else?)
I loved the holiday chapters, especially the Christmas one. I loved that Harry finally got to celebrate a good Christmas and receive some presents, and of course the Great Hall decorations sounded AMAZING. It gave me the perfect Christmas vibes, even though it’s the middle of June, which has to say something about author J.K Rowling. I want to be an author not journalist when I grow up, and the author I most look up to and want to be like is J.K Rowling, for her amazing writing and storytelling. Everything in this book was written spectacularly, and I think it might be because Rowling is British, or maybe she just is that good of an author. Whatever the case, the sentences were flawless and this book kept me engaged and thinking. I couldn’t put it down. Literally, every chapter was filled with action and surprises. And I’m not kidding when I say every chapter. Like you just read a really intense 20 page chapter and you think there will be some calm before the storm but then Bam! something else happens that keeps you reading for at least 3 more hours.
One thing I did find annoying about this book was the one chapter where Hagrid smuggles a baby dragon. Having a dragon as a pet is illegal, and despite Harry and the gang’s warnings, Hagrid would not get rid of Norbert the Norwegian Ridgeback. So in order to protect their friend Hagrid, Harry, Ron, and Hermione take it into their own hands to get rid of Norbert. In the process, the caretaker Filch catches them and reports them to Professor McGonagall. Harry, Ron, and Neville (Ron was in the hospital because he had been bitten by Norbert and therefore had an infected hand.) end up losing 150 points for Gryffindor, and get detention. Meanwhile Hagrid does nothing to save them, though they were only in the position in the first place because they were trying to protect Hagrid. In fact, Hagrid himself is the one in charge of their detention! This made me feel like Hagrid was really selfish, he could’ve stood up to McGonagall and told the truth, that way Harry and the gang wouldn’t be punished for trying to save him.

Overall this book was really good and I’d highly recommend it to anyone. There is also a movie series if you want to watch it. I loved reading this for the second time, just as much as the first. I hope you all enjoyed my first book review, I think next time I will do a Never Evers one!! If you don’t know, Never Evers is my favorite book ever, so that will be really fun. Comment below what you want me to write about! I hope you all are having a good summer, and I’ll see you later! 👋
